STUDENTS WITH CARRY OVERS BEHIND PROTEST-BSU VICE CHANCELLOR

The Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, Professor Moses Msugh Kembe has stated that students with carry overs were the mastermind of the protest that rocked the institution yesterday. ''The protest that took place yesterday (friday) was masterminded by students with many carry overs, who are not sure they will graduate and want to frustrate the whole system. The students had locked all entries to the school and barred the management and lecturers from entering the campus because they were stopped from writing their examination for failing to pay school fees. Some students who spoke to us on condition of Anonymity, said they could not pay their fee due to the inability of the state government to pay their parents salary. The VC said those who involved in the protest did so out of fear, ''They had no reason to embark on the protest, it is some of them that are behind in their academic performance that staged the protest so as to prolong their stay in school...

According to a facebook user, Two operatives of the NSCDC, Mr Adams Godwin and Abah Patrick have just been killed by Fulani herdsmen at Awange near Kasseyo Town in Guma local govt area of Benue State. This is coming one month after the state buried over 73 victims of herders attack.

PASTOR IN POLICE NET FOR ROBBERY

- Officials of the FSARS have arrested a Lagos based pastor, Daniel Onwugbufor, in connection with a car snatching syndicate - Onwugbufor was arrested after the police traced a stolen car to his house The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ogun state chapter, has arrested the General Overseer of the God’s Favour Ministry, Iba, Lagos State, Daniel Onwugbufor and an accomplice, Israel Animashaun, for alleged car snatching. Onwugbufor and Animashaun were arrested on February 1 after the police traced a stolen car to the pastor, Premium Times reports. Speaking with journalists on Sunday, the Ogun state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi,said that during interrogation, Animashaun confessed that he and two others snatched the vehicle at gun point in Ajah, Lagos state, and took it to the pastor who helps them sell such stolen items. Oyeyemi said the pastor earlier denied knowing that Mr. Animasaun was an armed robber later confessed and blamed his action on the devil.

TRAGEDY AS NAIRABET AGENT COMMITS SUICIDE OVER #600,000 WINNING

An unnamed agent of NairaBet, a sports betting platform, has killed himself after he could not pay a customer who allegedly won a N600k bet. The Punch reports that residents of Obadeyi Ajala woke up on Wednesday, May 24, to find the remains of the young man dangling from a rope in an uncompleted shop at Ajala bus stop, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.  A resident, Monday Gabriel, told our correspondent on the telephone that the girlfriend of the deceased, who fainted the moment she saw his remains, gave an account of what could have prompted him to kill himself. BENUE BLOGGER IN POLICE NET FOR FRAUD

A fraudulent Nigerian blogger has landed in trouble after allegedly defrauding a UK-based activist the sum of N2.2million. A Nigerian blogger, Apeh Peterhot has been arrested by the Nigerian Police in Lagos, according to a report by DailyPost. The Benue born Blogger had allegedly opened a facebook pseudo account in the name of Queen Ann Ochoga and used it to defraud Mr. Philip Agbese, to the tune of N2.2m. Also, an innocent pregnant woman, Ann Johnson, was implicated in the said transaction after the blogger, while trying to cover his tracks cunningly used her bank account details, under the pretence that he had issues with his BVN. He was however caught after the pregnant woman turned herself in at the police station and made confessional statement. ORTOM SIGNS ANTI-GRAZING BILL

Following the passage of the Open Rearing and Grazing bill into law by the Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday, May 4, Governor Samuel Ortom has, Monday 22 May, assented to the bill into law. Governor Ortom, who, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital on Monday, said the bill is a welcome development in the state and vowed to protect the state from intruders and criminals. According to the bill, “Nobody will be permitted to carryout open grazing outside the permitted ranches. “Any person who contravene this act shall be guilty and upon conviction be sentenced to 5 years imprisonment with a fine of 1 million. “Where damage is done to the crops the farm will be evaluated and the manager of the livestock be compelled to pay. “Movement of livestock on foot within the state is hereby prohibited.
